Mona Lucero is a small independent designer. All her clothing is designed, sewn and 100% made in America. We care about our community and helping to build strength locally, and for this reason everything we do is made in the USA.

If you see it on the website, we can custom design it for you - in addition to those you see, there are a lot that we can do behind the scenes. If you want to see additional designs or have some ideas of your own, we can create it!  Anything from skirts, dresses, scarves, pants, tops, and bags.

:mona lucero autobiography: i was born in the mission district of san francisco, california and raised on the western slope of colorado, in grand junction. as a young child, i drew constantly and i found my first love in art. at about age 12, my mother and sister taught me to sew and i began making some of my own clothes. my mother still has some of them! :education/training in garment industry: after high school, i moved to denver and received my bachelors in fine arts at the university of colorado with specializations in painting and sculpture. i loved to dress a little wild combining such things flight suits, strings of pearls, pink tennis shoes and assymetrically-cut blue-colored hair. i read a lot of fashion magazines, and during my senior year, i created my first textile installations and wearable art. as i was finishing art school, i realized that i had found a new love - fashion.

after realizing this, i decided the best place to learn about fashion would be new york city so i moved there and received an AAS in fashion design in 1987at the fashion institute of technology. :professional experience: my clothing industry experience includes working as an assistant patternmaker for a high-end skiwear line, designer for a better-priced women’s active wear line, technical designer for a resort wear line, and as a screen artist.  i have designed and constructed costumes for local theatre & dance productions. in 1993, i launched my wholesale line of clothing and bags and sold the line to stores in colorado, california, new mexico and even russia! in 2002, i opened my boutique, mona lucero design, in its current location at 2544 15th street. i'm currently carrying my own line of clothing, accessories and bags in addition to other local and national designers and artists.

:awards & write-ups:   the shop reflects my continuing interest in the relationship of art and design. it has received awards such as best independent boutique from westword, best gift shop from 5280 magazine and one of the best national independent boutiques in city magazine. my designs have been featured in la voz magazine, denver post rocky mountain news, and 303 magazine.   in spring 2007, i was chosen to compete as one of the city’s best designers for the fashion project design contest at tamarac square. it was a lot like the t.v. show project runway and it was very challenging but i learned a lot about myself and where my designs fit in the world. it was a great experience.   in february 2008, i was awarded westword’s mastermind 2008 award in fashion.
